<td width="100%">
A fine Ming dynasty carved nephrite jade qi'long, ca.1368-1644. Dimensions are 3-1/8" long, 1-5/8" tall, 1-1/2" wide. Carved from mottled greenish-gray nephrite jade with brown and black veins. The jade also exhibits milky-white inclusions known as qin. Qin is a metamorphic process that is product of tomb burial and take hundreds of years to form. Qin cannot be artificially produced with modern techniques. This carving depicts a recumbent mythical beast known as a qi'long. Also referred to as a unicorn. Its head turned while holding a ling-chih branch in its mouth. The ling-chih was carved in full-round with an opening behind the main stalk. The tigers roundness, turned and alert posture, flat leg-underside and jade type are all consistent with the Ming period attribution. The overall condition consensus is extremely fine condition without any injury or repair.
