Never seen by us. Fantastic California Gold Rush mining stock issued in San Francisco in 1851. Location was determined based on an Oct. 24th, 1851 Daily Alta California article that featured a lengthy report of the mining activity in Mariposa County. They mention a Mineral Mountain Mining Company forming in the neighborhood of the Merced Mining Co. at Mount Ophir. The company has "expensive machinery" and will work by steam. No other reference to this company can be found. Not in Filer or other Holabird indexes. (Starting in 1863, a Mineral Mountain claim in Calaveras County is reported.) This stock is No. 1720, issued for 10 shares to LL Blood and Eugene B. Smith, trustees, on Sept. 8th, 1851 in San Francisco. Signed by chairman Henry D. Hunter and secretary P.A. Hastings. Not cancelled. Black border and print on thin paper. Three different allegorical vignettes. Lith. of B.F. Butler, San Francisco. Folds, creases, staining, large tape repair. 5.25 x 9.75" L.L. Blood & Co. are listed as commission merchants in the 1850 Kimball SF directory. None of the others are listed. Ken Prag Collection
