Milton 5E10R.2a 10¢ Fifth Issue Uncut Tete-Beche
Milton 5E10R.2a 10¢ Fifth Issue Uncut Tete-Beche Block of Four Very Choice New. Previously lot 1106 from our January 1997 Sale where it was described as: "Printed on India paper mounted on a card. Only seven tete-beche 10¢ Fifth Issue reverse pairs exist and this block contains two of them. All seven pairs trace their origins to a single sheet, which was discovered in November of 1985. The sheet was cut, and divided among major collectors with Milt obtaining blocks of both the 10¢ and 25¢ pairs. The notes are true Proofs, with ink laid on so heavily and sharply that the design elements can be felt with one's fingers. This tete-beche arrangement was created so that the localized anti-counterfeiting stain could be produced in the center of the sheet and still appear at the right-end of each note when the notes were separated. This extraordinary block would be a stand-out item in any advanced Fractional collection, and, paired with the 25¢ block, it would be a real show-stopper." Tom succeeded in purchasing both this block, and Milt's 25¢ block, which appears three lots below. He also acquired pairs of both denominations, and singles of both denominations when he purchased Doug Hales' complete collection. An incredible item, the likes of which will only appear when truly great collections are sold.
