Milton 4E10F.2 10¢ Fourth Issue Essay Horizontal
Milton 4E10F.2 10¢ Fourth Issue Essay Horizontal Pair. Previously lot 1099 of our January 1997 Friedberg Sale. We described it there as: "A vertical pair cut from the only known sheet at the 1986 Memphis show. The sheet was discovered intact in the Fall of 1985 in Massachusetts. It made its way to the Grand Central Show in New York and it was cut into pairs and singles in Memphis in June of 1986. The notes were divided up by the active Fractional collectors in attendance at that show. Many of the notes from the edge of the sheet had tears and folds but the internal notes were perfect. This pair has one of each: the top note is lightly folded at its upper edge and has a short tear; the bottom note is a perfect, flawless Gem. This cardboard proof is from the completed plate of the Fourth Issue 10¢, lacking only the seal. It's unlisted in the Encyclopedia, as none were known to exist prior to the discovery of this sheet." Tom acquired this pair in that auction. The vertical pair in the next lot had been Doug Hales' share from the original sheet when it was cut in 1986. Tom acquired that when he purchased Doug's collection.
