Milton 3E50F.4a 50¢ Third Issue Justice Experimen
Milton 3E50F.4a 50¢ Third Issue Justice Experimental Choice New. A spectacular Justice face printing on soft, thin white paper, with heavy embossing evident on the back. There is a tiny, 1mm split in the top margin, and other than that the piece is flawless. It is from the completed Justice plate, lacking only the signatures and bronzing. The note has the typical "SPECIMEN" stamp, and two half-moon cancels. There is a green-patterned tint heavily printed on both ends of the note that tapers down and eventually disappears before reaching the figure of Justice. Clearly an experiment in anti-counterfeiting techniques. Unique to our best knowledge, it was previously lot 1851 of the 1992 sale of the Alan May Collection. It is the only piece from that sale repurchased by Alan and it was acquired privately directly from him by Tom O'Mara. One of the key pieces in Tom's definitive collection.
