Milton 2E10R.4a 10¢ Second Issue Experimental New
Milton 2E10R.4a 10¢ Second Issue Experimental New. Acquired by Tom O'Mara as lot 951 of our Friedberg Collection Sale, previously from the September, 1975 Bowers and Ruddy Sale lot 1102. It was described in Friedberg, "This is the much scarcer variety with the three wedge-shaped cancels and the word "SPECIMEN," stamped horizontally above them. Research indicates that the three wedge cancels originated in the auditor's office. These cancels are much less frequently seen, and tend to appear on the scarcer Experimental numbers. This note is bright, and it would grade Gem if it were not for traces of adhesive on the bronze-oval side. Plated both sides in the Encyclopedia on page 54." This piece realized $495 in 1997.
