A Mills Liberty Bell slot machine circa 1906. This model is a Fey Liberty Bell, manufactured in Chicago. Machine stands about 2` x 1` and is constructed of cast iron, with claw foot legs. Although it used the same operating mechanism as the Fey, this model features an enlarged window and reel tins. The reel strips, retaining the Fey symbols, were printed with 20 characters instead of the 10 used by its predecessor. This model was later offered with patriotic symbols. In order to be operated in closed territories, these machines also served as gum or candy machines that still paid cash rewards, but offered an optional sweet treat with each nickel played [Ref: Slot Machines: America`s Favorite Gaming Device, Sixth Edition-Marshall Fey, 2006]. This machine, No. 2851, is embossed with, THE OPERATORS BELL on the front and a Liberty Bell with 1776 on either side. There is also a raised relief of a city skyline, with the Statue of Liberty in the foreground on both sides. This machine still operates and appears to be loaded with nickels. -59709
