Millet, Jean-François. La fileuse, cheuvrière auvergnate. [The Spinner, Goatherd of the Auvergne], 5 x 7¾ inches on 10¼ x 13¾ inch paper, c. 1868-69. A peasant woman in the field, spinning, her goats visible behind her. Signed "J.F. Millet" in the plate at lower right. French artist Jean-François Millet (1814-1875) was one of the founders of the Barbizon school. The son of peasants, peasants were his favorite subject matter.
