Signed book: Montaigne’s Works Vol. II. First edition. NY: H. W. Derby, 1861. Hardcover, 5.25 x 7.5, 533 pages. Fillmore’s ownership signature appears on the title page in black ink, “Millard Fillmore, May 20, 1861.” In very good condition, with a few partial separations to pages from spine, cracking along inner front hinge, light wear and rubbing to covers and spine, and some chipping to fore-edges of pages. This book was once part of Fillmore’s library, deaccessioned by the Buffalo Historical Society and originally acquired directly from that sale.
