Clean ALS as president signed “Millard Fillmore,” one page, lightly-lined both sides, 11 x 15.25, Executive Mansion letterhead, February 19, 1851. In part: “Whereas it appears that at the May term 1848 of the United States Court for the Western District of Virginia, John D. Fenton was sentenced to be imprisoned in the penitentiary at Washington for robbing the post office at Winchester and whereas it has been made satisfactorily to appear to me, that said Fenton is a fit subject for Executive clemency…I. Millard Fillmore have granted, and do hereby grant, unto him, the said John D. Fenton a full and unconditional pardon.” Countersigned by Secretary of State Daniel Webster. Embossed Seal of the United States affixed. Matted with two engravings and framed to an overall size of 24.25 x 23. The frame’s reverse is designed so that both sides of the document are visible. In fine condition. Wonderful combination of two respected names in American history. Oversized.
