Interesting collection of three items, each signed by a notable military figure, including: Gideon Welles (signature), Joseph Joffre (DS), and Lorenzo Thomas (LS). In overall very good condition. Individual descriptions are as follows:

Gideon Welles: Ink signature, “Gideon Welles,” on an off-white 7.75 x 3.5 lightly-lined slip clipped from the closing of a letter. In very good condition, with scattered light toning and soiling, a few creases, paper loss to lower right corner, small photo remnant to lower right, and a few edge tears.

Joseph Joffre: Manuscript DS, in French, signed “J. Joffre,” one page, 8 x 11.5, January 20, 1906. Untranslated document signed at the conclusion by Joffre as the general director. Reverse of second integral page is affixed to an identical size scrapbook page. In fine condition, with central horizontal and vertical folds, a mild shade of toning, and a small pencil notation near signature.

Lorenzo Thomas: LS signed “L. Thomas,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, August 30, 1844. Letter to a gentleman. In part: “Information relative to Elijah or Elisha D. Bowne…Elijah Bowne, enlisted on the 9th September 1914, for five years, and deserted from Captain Bliss’ company.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds and mounting remnants to borders.
