Choice presidential autograph for this political figure also tied to the West. Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) was the 26th president of the United States, celebrated as a reform-minded Progressive, conservationist, soldier, and writer. He first gained national fame as a Rough Rider in the Spanish-American War and later served as New York governor and vice president. In 1901, after President William McKinley was assassinated on September 14, Roosevelt became the nation's youngest president at age 42, focusing immediately on trust-busting, civil service reform, and conservation policies.
