n.p., n.d., but probably ca 1872. Style of printing and wrappers reminiscent of GPO. At the time, Sherman was Commanding General of the U.S. Army and in Washington. 12mo, printed wraps, LXXIX index pages, 375 numbered pp. Front wrapper inscribed to Ruger as Superintendent of the US Military Academy (1871 - 1876), Washington, DC, Jan. 29, 1873. We can find no mention of this publication. Sherman was one of the first generals to publish his memoirs after the war. Since this volume is inscribed to Ruger in early 1873, it predates his memoirs (first edition 1875), and one can imagine that it may have been a preliminary to organizing and writing that volume. A scarce publication.

Descended directly in the family of General Thomas H. Ruger

Condition: Light toning, first half of index pages with folded, scuffed corners. Rear wrap missing, front detached but present.
