Offered in this lot we have an original Charles Coggshall Miles City Saddlery saddle (tree) originating from 1895-1905. Charles Coggshall was an early saddle maker in Miles City, Montana 1895. He was a partner of the famous saddle maker, Al Furstnow. Coggshall was a prosperous businessman who hired the best saddle makers available to work in his shop. Miles City became known as the Western saddle capitol of the United States. This saddle was built around 1895-1905 and still has the loop seat. The tree is the famous Miles City wide swell tree used by both Coggshall and Furstnow. The Coggshall saddle was incredibly popular and was used by cowboys across the entire country. The saddle shows good condition overall with some wear indicative of age. The piece measures 22" long by 23 1/2 at the widest with a 14" seat.
