This is a wonderful set of unmarked Mike Morales silver inlaid spurs from circa 1910-1920. Mike Morales (b.1888-d.1934) apprenticed under G.S. Garcia’s in his Elko, Nevada shop at a young age until he moved to Pendleton, Oregon where he opened a bit and spur department for Hamley & Co. in 1910. In 1915 Mike moved to Portland and opened his own shop producing his own line of spurs sold by catalog. The spurs show a fine California pattern with Mike Morales documented diamond silver mounted inlaid design showing a wide tooled silver inlaid diamond with split inlaid sections at the four corners. The drop shank shows a rear facing spur and three silver inlaid bars with chasing and are holding ten-point rowels. The back of the spur shows engraved chasing and the typical Mike Morales documented stationary stud design. The spurs have some slight rust and rich original patina and could have possibly been marked with the “M” hallmark, but it cannot be legibly seen. The set is accompanied with an early set of basketweave tooled leather spur straps in good overall condition. Each spur measures (without the spur straps) 5.5”L x 4 7/8”W with 1.5” rowels. The spur straps are 10.5”L and 2.5”W approximately.
