Delaware, 1916. $500 Specimen 5% Convertible Sinking Fund Gold Coupon Bond, Black text with orange border and undertint, Trains passing by an industrial building at top center. Red specimen overprints, 00000 serial numbers, and POCs. Fine-VF condition, ABNC. Midvale Steel was a succession of steel-making corporations. In 1916, "The British Government has placed an order for 100 howitzers with the Midvale Steel and Ordnance Company. The guns will cost about $27,000 each, making the total of $2,700,000. As the Midvale Company has already on its books all the business that it can handle for some months ahead, it will probably be necessary to erect a new plant for the manufacture of the howitzers". This bond was probably issued in order to expand its business since it coincides with the date of the British contract. Rare military weapons manufacturer.
