Mid-19th Century Scrimshawed and Engraved San Francisco Made Michael Price Ring Guard Dirk, 5-1/8'' semi-spearpoint blade of 7/32'' stock, left side of blade at ricasso roll stamped ''M. Price'' in slight radius over ''San Fran.''. Silver double ring crossguard shows light vine and floral engraving to center area. Marine ivory one-piece grip shows lightly scrimshawed hunting scene of seated hunter on trunk of tree shooting standing grizzly bear in a scene that is approx. 2-1/2''x1-1/8'' lightly bordered oval. With correct period type German silver sheath with reeded throat and small silver swivel at point. Interior of sheath is lined in a mustard-colored cotton velveteen. Condition is overall fine to near excellent. Blade shows light even gray patina and very minor carbon coming thru near hilt. Two-ring crossguard with minor nicks, light scratches, and thin even patina. Grip with light wear to hunting scene, with most of the ink having been worn off; light scuffs !
