Mid-1970's James Harris Game Worn Helmet
Mid-1970's James Harris Game Worn Helmet. A gridiron Jackie Robinson of sorts, Harris was the first African-American to start an NFL season at quarterback, accomplished as a member of the Buffalo Bills backfield he shared with a rookie O.J. Simpson. This historic gamer dates to a few years later, from his 1973-76 tenure with the Los Angeles Rams. Though missing the facemask following the breakage of the mounting clips, the helmet is otherwise complete and original to Harris' usage. The Kra-Lite II shell exhibits nice use that is consistent with the fine, sweaty wear found upon the interior twelve-point suspension system. Size stamping has been blurred a bit by this use, but appears to be "7 1/8" or "7 1/4." Dymo tape applied over left interior ear hole reads "12 Harris." Original chin strap. Left rams horn decal has been team repaired with a patch of matching adhesive material. An important artifact from a man who would pave the way for superstars from Doug Williams to Donovan McNabb. LOA from Lou Lampson.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Larg (view shipping information)
