Mid-18th Century Japanese Matchlock, with 40-1/4'' signed barrel, 53'' overall, .52 cal. bore, iron flash hole, full-length stock with brass band showing cherryblossom motif and escutcheons. Top of barrel with inlaid dragon motifs in brass, with five-petal cherryblossom behind rear sight. Right side of buttstock with leaping tiger. Ca. 1750. Mixed metal chrysanthemum wick holders inlaid into butt portion of stock. Condition is fine with light patina to iron surfaces and minor darkening to brass designs. Stock with some oil staining, general darkening, and minor losses. Action may need simple repair. Missing small brass decoration at rear portion of stock comb. Ramrod may be an old replacement.
