Two wooden microscope boxes, empty, and a bundle of Edmund Scientific optics. Box 1 is made from a light-colored wood, approx. 8.25 x 14 x 9 inches, and has a small metal plate labeled // YASHIMA TOKYO / YASHIMA OPTICAL CO. LTD. //. Inside has rails and guides for securing a microscope and spare parts (not included). There is a lock on the door but there is no key; Box 2 is made from a dark-stained wood and the outside is covered in a black leather-like material. It is embossed on the door with AO, the logo of American Optical. Inside has partitions for securing the base of a microscope and a holder on the inside of the door to hold four eyepieces. The locking mechanism has been removed from this box. Edmunds Scientific sold lenses, polarizers, and other optical items in characteristic brown envelopes to hobbyists for decades. Here is a lot of 11 lenses of various sizes and focal lengths, 2 front-surface mirrors about 40mm, two 9x12mm beam splitters, a 1x1-inch Ronchi ruling (100 lip), a 13,400 lip diffraction grating in a 35mm slide mount, several envelopes of polarizing material from 5x5 inches to 20mm diameter, a 6x6-inch, 1/4-wave retardation plate, a 4x5-inch plate of heat-absorbing glass, a 1.25-inch diameter sun filter, and a 4x5-inch, satin-finish ground glass plate.
