Mexican War-Era Hall Model 1843 Percussion Breechloading Cavalry Carbine, NVSN, .52 cal., 21" round barrel with tiny raised blade front and notched rear sights, and stud at lower muzzle to retain the trumpet-tip ramrod; receiver has rear-hinged breechblock actuated by a right-side thumb lever unique to this model, boxlock hammer, marked "JH" below rear sight, "U.S./S.North/Midltn/Conn/1844" at breech, has 8.5" sling bar/ring at left; steel fittings comprise trigger guard with long tangs, straight buttplate, 2 barrel bands; 3/4 stock of oil-finished walnut. Mfg'd 1844 (1st year of production) with brown lacquer finish, case hardened breech. Condition is fair, being generally smooth metal, showing most of a later brown finish, good edges, and soft breech markings. Stock is sound showing pinned/glued crack repairs at wrist, 11.5" crack at left, 9" replaced wood sliver at right receiver, hairline at left front band, else smooth with minor marks and added finish. Action is crisp, smoothbore shows overall moderate/heavy erosion. Est.: $1,000-$1,200. (Antique)
