Interesting example of Mexican Officer’s Sword which dates from the late 19th Century. It is a French made Sword mounted with a Toledo Blade that measures 32 ¼ inches in length which is marked with the Mexican retailer “C. Morel Mexico” on one side of the ricasso and the French logo of “H. Backes / F. Delacour” on the other of the ricasso. The blade is also beautifully etched on both sides which includes the making “Fa D Toledo” on one side and “Ano D 1899” on the other side and remains in very nice condition with only light surface blemishes. The fabulous solid steel hilt is magnificently detailed with silver inlay and a large sweeping S-shaped crossguard. The lovely leather scabbard is handsomely tooled which is beautifully enhanced with an intricately detailed floral silver thread design upon its front side. Overall measuring 38 inches in length. Listed on page 135 in book “MEXICAN SWORDS” by Jan E. Culbertson.
