Exceptional Mexican Engraved and Silver-Plated Winchester Model 1866 Carbine, #27171, .44 converted to CF, 20'' blue barrel, mag tube and barrel bands; engraved silver-plated brass frame with case hardened hammer and lever, walnut stock and forend, with brass buttplate. Condition is excellent with Hoggson style scrolls and punchdot backgrounds, and nicely executed Mexican eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus devouring a snake symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. Silver plate has thinned to approx. 65% with most of the losses to right side opposite eagle. Barrel and mag tube have toned brown. Lever latch is an old Mexican replacement. Stock shows an additional coat of varnish. Action is good, bore is fair. Est.: $7,500-$12,500. (Antique)
