This lot features a sterling silver medal bearing number 34, with display box, photograph and book. The Mescalero Apache Tribe celebrated the centennial of the United States Presidential Executive Order setting aside its present reservation on July 8, 1973. In connection with the celebration, the tribe minted its own peace medal for its leader, Wendell Chino. The medal was presented to Julie Nixon Eisenhower on July 11, 1973. A photograph that measures 7.10" x 5" showed Chino presenting the medal to Eisenhower. There is also a book titled Indian Peace Medals in American History, by Frances Paul Prucha. The book was published By the Wisconsin State Historical Society in 1971. The display box has some damage. HKA#63699
