Merwin and Hulbert patent frontier revolver by Hopkins and Allen in .44-40 caliber, fully and finely engraved with panel scene of stag and fitted with original factory ivory grips, serial number 19649. This revolver was formally in thefamous Tom Weston collection located in Mexico City with his name marked beneath the grips. The revolver remains in fine to near excellent original condition showing 85% to 95% original nickel and the areas where the nickel has liftedgoing to a natural patina with some minor pitting and erosion just starting. Most of the loss is located by the front of the muzzle and on the sight. The edges are sharp and crisp and the engraving is well defined. There is an engravedsmall panel of a stag just beneath the hammer. The cylinder shows some light traces of original gold wash over the nickel plate. The grips show normal aging and fit impeccably with a couple of small chips at the left rear at the heel. The bore isvery good plus to near fine and the assembly numbers on the barrel and cylinder are 2184 and match. This revolver is a desirable and scarce configuration having a top strap over the cylinder and being double action with a squared butt. A
