Merwin & Hulbert single action frontier revolver, 44-40 cal., barrel shortened to 4-1/2”, pearl grips, #17962. The revolver remains in fair to poor original condition showing hard wear, light gray patina finish, light to moderate pitting and erosion, and some heavier pitting at firing areas. There are some dings around the front of the barrel from incorrect disassembly and also on latch of barrel at front and rear. The grips are badly damaged and show large chips and large losses. The condition is only fair overall. A document is signed Paul Hankey for Lucille Lyman Carroll, wife of famous 1940s-50s actor John Carroll, who testifies this Merwin & Hulbert was from the collection of the noted actor. A letter by collector Dick Staff concerns this Merwin & Hulbert and the tradition that this revolver once belonged to Billy the Kid with associated magazine article, also, describing this Merwin & Hulbert.
