Merwin & Hulbert patent revolver by Hopkins & Allen, .44-40 caliber, 7-1/2” barrel, with reinforced top-strap, square bottom grips, period engraved, nickel finish, ivory grips, showing mexican snake and eagle in panel onleft, bird on right. Serial #15143. The revolver shows 80-90% old renickeled finish which is flaking and drifting, mostly on the cylinder. Areas where the nickel have lifted show some pinprick pitting and darkening.Markings are still fairly sharp as is the engraving. Right grip is good with a slight age crap, left grip shows large grip at the heel. The action is good, bore good. The barrel and cylinder are numbered 4871 and are not matching which is mostly the case on this model. A good frontier era M&H. Est: $1,750 - $3,500
