Merwin Hulbert Rare Antique 1873 Winchester Revolver
This is a Merwin Hulbert 1873 model Winchester revolver, made by the Hopkins & Allen Manufacturing Co, Norwich, Connecticut. This is a rare and desirable revolver. It features an open top scoop flute single action design. It is a .44-40 calibre, with 7 inch barrel. The overall size of this gun is 12 inches long x 5 inches tall. The exterior is nickel, and it has just been cleaned. The grips on either side are black gutta percha with checkerboard pattern, and these are original. The twist-open design is quite unusual. The name and model appear on the side. Patent dates appear on top of the barrel. The number 33 773 appears on the underside of the butt.
We have not tested it with bullets, but we have tested the trigger and loading mechanisms, and it seems to be functioning smoothly. There is a tiny chip on the black grip on the underside corner. Overall it is in excellent condition.
The machining and workmanship on this gun are considered to be exceptional. It is a magnificent revolver for the serious firearms or antique collector.
