Merwin Hulbert Large Frame Single Action Revolver with Presentation Inscription

This is an example of a Merwin Hulbert & Co. large frame, single action revolver with top strap, fluted cylinder and flat butt. The revolver has a nickel plated finish with color casehardened hammer and trigger guard. The two-piece hard rubber grips feature the basket weave pattern at the top. The butt is fitted with a factory lanyard ring. The barrel has an integral half-moon front sight and the top strap has a sighting groove. The top of the barrel is roll stamped with the one line address and patent dates marking. The left side of the barrel is stamped "THE HOPKINS & ALLEN Manufacturing Co. Norwich. Conn. U.S.A." The back strap has an authentic period engraved inscription: "JASPER W. Hallock from GMW 1884". (No research has been done on the individuals involved with the aforementioned 1884 Presentation circumstances.) The left side of the frame is marked "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER" (traces remain) followed by 1873. The serial number is stamped on the butt with the assembly number "720" stamped on the left side of the frame under the grip, face of the barrel lug and rear face of the cylinder.
