Merwin Hulbert & Co. Single Action Army Revolver with Ivory Grips

Manufactured between 1876 and 1880, the Merwin Hulbert Army Revolver combined conventional gated loading with a speed extractor system, which could clear the cylinder of empty casings with a simple twist and pull of the barrel group. Blade and notch sights, with "THE HOPKINS & ALLEN Manufacturing Co. Norwich, Conn. U.S.A." on the left side of the barrel, the Merwin Hulbert address on top and "CALIBRE 44 M.H.& Co." on the left side of the frame. The matching assembly number "723" is marked on the back of the cylinder, the rear of the barrel lug and left side of the frame under the grip. Nickel finish with a casehardened hammer and scoop fluted cylinder, and fitted with smooth mother of pearl grips.

Very fine. The revolver retains 80% plus of the untouched original nickel finish, showing mild frosting on the barrel and a darker tone on the cylinder and frame, scattered flaking and mild handling marks. Traces of bright case colors are present on the hammer with a smooth mottled gray patina on the balance. Mechanically functions, but needs adjustment. The grips are slightly undersize and remain fine with a small chip on the upper front edges of both sides, mild age cracking and an attractive aged grain and color.
