Merwin & Hulbert .44-40 caliber single-action revolver. 7” barrel, nickel plated, bird-head shaped frame with lanyard ring, with original to the period raise carved pearl grips showing Mexican snake andeagle and original tooled Western-style holster. Serial #965. The pistol retains 50-70% original nickel, most of the loss from the front of the barrel and areas where the nickel is lost shows some erosion and lightto moderate pitting. The frame and cylinder have survived in better condition and shows just light erosion and minor pinprick pitting just starting. The markings are sharp, edges good, carved pearl grips are very good plusshowing iridescent rainbow hues and just slight wear at the tops and edges. The action is tight, the bore very good. The barrel and cylinder are numbered 986 and match, as Merwin & Hulberts are often not fullymatching, as discussed in many publications.
