Merwin & Bray Plants Patent .42 Cup Revolver
Featured in this lot we have a Merwin & Bray, Plants Patent, front loading single action Army revolver chambered in .42 caliber. The revolver displays a six shot cylinder, 5 1/2" long octagonal barrel, brass frame, and walnut grips. The top of the barrel is marked "Plants MFG Co New Haven CT" in faded lettering with the side of the barrel marked "Merwin & Bray New York" and "PATENTED JULY 12. 1859 & JULY 21. 1863" across the cylinder. The firearm is chambered in the .42 cupfire caliber, designed for front end loading. The revolver was manufactured in the 1860's, and was designed in such a way to not infringe on Smith & Wesson's "Rollin White" cylinder patent. Overall, the revolver shows very-good aesthetic condition, but will need some replacement parts for full mechanical condition. The hammer and trigger shows good condition with the cylinder rotation not working. Aesthetically, the revolver shows a mellow mustard yellow patina on the brass frame and a nice naturally aged blue on the barrel and cylinder. Serial Number: 6106. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
