Merkin's stamp on pastedown. Fine. Lester Merkin's own copy of the special hardcover edition of his first auction sale, the important collection of U.S. large cents formed by Lou Helfenstein. Catalogued by Walter Breen (though his typescript was heavily edited, with many changes made). The color photo on the front cover was the first to be used on a U.S. numismatic auction catalogue, and is a classic. Number 100 of 100 copies (No. 1 was given to Helfenstein) and initialed by Merkin with the number. Ex Lester Merkin Library Sale (Kolbe 1984, lot 297).
