They represent the earliest collectible notes from this Southern State that was economically devastated by the War Between the States and Reconstruction, as no First Charter notes have ever been discovered from the three banks that issued them. This $5 Brown Back saw plenty of circulation in late nineteenth and early twentieth century Mississippi, but it is one of only two notes known from this rare bank that issued just Brown Backs before it liquidated in 1903 and had just $5,970 outstanding in 1910. Good overall but almost fully intact, with only a small piece missing from the right margin.
