Color 10 x 8 NASA photo of the Mercury astronauts posing in front of an Air Force jet at Langley on January 20, 1961, signed vertically in blue and black ink, “M. Scott Carpenter,” “Leroy G. Cooper, Jr.,” “J. H. Glenn, Jr.,” “Virgil I. Grissom,” “Walter M. Schirra,” “Alan B. Shepard,” and “Donald K. Slayton.” Photo is inscribed at the top in an unknown hand, “Best regards to Nina from the Astronauts.” In fine condition, with some light creases to upper portion, and some light contrast to Carpenter’s signature. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the nephew of the original recipient, which reads, in part: “The autographed picture of the seven Mercury astronauts was given to my Aunt Nina in 1963. My aunt, Nina Scrivener, was the secretary to the NASA Administrator, James Webb.”
