First edition. Unrecorded by the bibliographer Thomas W. Streeter who lists similar items, as well as other imprints relating to the Texas Association colony. The Texas Association was formed by Charles F. Mercer, former agent for Peter's Colony, received his grant from Sam Houston in January, 1844. Mercer financed his colonization contract by "dividing his whole interest in the said contract of land …into one hundred shares." This certificate grants "One Share of Stock in the Texas Association established for colonizing certain land in Texas under the Authority of the Republic." <I>Courtesy of Michael Heaston, Austin.</B></I> <BR><BR><b>This 2006 March Texas State Historical Association Charity Auction is being held in Austin, TX on February 12 - March 4, 2006.
