World War II-dated ALS, signed "Lt. Col. Melvin Purvis," one page, both sides, 8 x 10.5, October 26, 1943. Homesick and romantic handwritten letter to his wife Rosanne, in part: "I still have no word from you or any one of the family since the baby came and I cannot understand it. Everyone else is receiving their letters from home every day or so and while I know they need them, they do not require them half as much as I do"¦Please send all by air mail at least"¦I see you already have the notice of allotment. It is to begin October first"¦You must not be worried about what the papers say about the length of the war. They know no more than anyone else and besides you must remember what I told you. If you could ever see inside my heart and know how it aches for the sight of you, you would know that I shall come back to you exactly the same as I left and as soon as I possibly can. I love you, my Rosanne. Nothing can ever change that or all that goes with it." Purvis incorporates his signature into his return address penned in the upper margin of the first page, "Lt. Col. Melvin Purvis"“0329851, PMG-Section-NATOUSA., APO-534-â„… Postmaster, New York, N.Y." In fine condition, with a small tear to the top edge.
