This antique genre plaque depicts a swordsman raising his tall claret glass in celebration, with his wife or child seated on his lap. On the reverse is a name which has not been deciphered which is possibly the artist's signature, plus a mark in blue of crossed swords, possibly Meissen or after Meissen. Plaque measures 5 by 6.75 inches (12.7 by 17.1 cm), and frame measures 13.15 by 15.25 by 2.15 inches (33.4 by 38.7 by 5.4 cm). Plaque and frame together weigh 3 lbs. 10 oz. (1.6 kg). There is some light dust on the plaque surface which is noticeable in our photographs (particularly toward the top) which we failed to remove prior to photography. The plaque is otherwise clean and requires no cleaning or restoration of any kind. Antique gilded frame has some noticeable losses. This item resides with our client on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York and may be seen by appointment.
