Meeting for Blinded British Soldiers Poster 42" x 28" Artist: unsigned. The first World War marked the beginning of a horrific precedent; gas warfare. The Germans first used chlorine gas as an offensive attack in March 1915 at Neuve Chapelle. The attack was of little significance tactically since little ground was gained, however, it would mark the start of gas attacks by both sides. There are images of blinded british soldiers, each man following the next by placing his hand on the next man's shoulder. Horrific images like this were all too common in WWI, where all the monstrous advances of technology were being used against men. This poster is not from the main corpus of government printed images. It must have been issued locally for a private meeting. This is a fantastic chance to own a poster from WWI which not only is extremely scarce and rare but also commemorates the beginnings of germ/gas warfare. Two fantastic pieces of history in one poster; must not be missed!

Condition: Fair; severe tears on top and bottom edges, one on upper edge which extends well into the text, left edge has a piece missing as well as some smoke discoloration, the date of the meeting was written on the poster in marker and has since bled out and caused the paper to yellow and deteriorate around it.
