Rashtrakutas (?)/Coastal feudatories - uninscribed gold gadyana, (c.900-1000AD), unlisted in any publications, 4.67g. Obv: an elaborate temple with Dravida/Phamsana style architecture, with two flags on the Shikhara and Sun and star on either side of the finial. Rev: a ceremonial archway enclosing two Yali (mythical lion) figures, each with elephantine snouts and goat's horns, fighting each other. The side also bears an undeterminable countermark.

About extremely fine, Extremely rare.

Although it is almost impossible to attribute this coin because it lacks any legends, similar 'temple'-type coins with pseudo-Arabic inscriptions are known, which in turn connect them to the Rashtrakutas. They are most likely issued by coastal feudatories of the imperial dynasty, active in trade with Islamic rulers of the Middle East and therefore are struck to the standard of an Islamic dinar.
