Rajput kingdoms of North India, uncertain dynasty, billon jital of Pipala Raja (1168-1170 AD), 'bull and horseman’ type, Deyell 215, 3.29g. Obv: Bull seated left, Devanagari legend …Samanta Deva around; number '1' on the jhula of bull. Rev: Horseman right, with Devanagari legend Sri Pipala… around.

Very fine+, Very rare.

Jitals of Pipala Raja are amongst the rarest of the 'bull and horseman' series. Although it is not certain to which dynasty did Pipala Raja belonged to, it is likely that he was ruling in Eastern Rajasthan, probably a feudatory/contemporary of Chahmanas of Naddula (Nadol). His chronological placement was decided by Deyell based on hoard evidence.
