Pre-Vijayanagara period (c.1250-1300 AD) - silver tara from south Karnataka/west Andhra region, most likely issued by the Telugu Chodas of Nellore, not listed in Ganesh or MCSI, 0.17g. Obv: warrior walking to right holding aloft a sword. Rev: Devanagari letter 'Da' below a sword (partly visible).

Extremely fine, Rare.

The design of the coin is comparable to gold Hons of the Telugu Chodas, with Kannada legend Danava/Murari/Bantaru in three lines. The 'Da' in Devanagari is most probably an abbreviation of the Kannada legend.
