Early medieval Gujarat, uninscribed and unattributed coin, (600-700 AD), unpublished in major sources, 0.90g. Obv: Demonic face representing Kirttimukha, a feature usually seen as architectural or iconic decoration. Rev: Sun face with crescent mark on the forehead.

Very fine, Extremely rare.

The choice of two facing images on the coin is remarkable and highly unusual for any Indian numismatic depictions. The coin in all probability was issued by one of many Rajput feudatory dynasties of peninsular Gujarat who claimed descent from the 'Solar Race' or Suryavansha.
