Early Medieval Maharashtra, Khandesh region, 'bull' type alloyed copper coin of 'Vishnukundin' fabric, attributed to uncertain ruler, probably a local Rashtrakuta ruler (600-700 AD), 1.22g. Obv: Bull standing facing right, indistinct Brahmi legend above. Rev: Elephant walking to right within a rayed circle.

Very fine+, Extremely rare.

Rare examples of 'bull' type Vishnukundin fabric coins of early medieval Northern Maharashtra are known to have animal reverses, instead of the usual Kalasha motif. A peacock, a horse and a lion are known, each by a unique example. To this menagerie, this coin adds an elephant and like the other examples, it remains unique so far.
