Abhiras of Bhambhagiri (Bhamer in Khandesh, Northern Maharashtra), Lakshmideva (1200-1250 AD), silver ½ tara, unpublished in major sources, 0.13g. Obv: Warrior running to right. Rev: Representation of sun and moon, Devanagari letter La followed by Kannada numeral 1.25 partially visible.

Extremely fine, Very rare.

The attribution of this silver coin to Abhira king Lakshmideva is on the basis of a unique gold punch-marked coin offered in Oswal Antiques auction no. 50, lot 12. The central punch on the gold Gadyana is the same as the main device on this coin, a running warrior. The letter 'La' is engraved in exactly the same style as on the gold coin which sported a fuller legend 'Shri Lakshmi'. Lakshmideva, the Abhira king of Bhambhagiri (identified with present-day Bhamer in Khandesh) is mentioned in inscriptions of king Ramachandra of the Yadava dynasty of Devagiri, as one of the rulers who the Yadava king Singhana had defeated.
