An exciting assortment of different medical advertising items and ephemera including: 1) A cast iron cauldron, painted red, embossed “S.S.S./ For The/ Blood” on front and back. This item was used as a string holder in a shop; the string would feed through the bottom of the cauldron, allowing the shopkeeper to easily tie up packages while simultaneously advertising SSS tonic, which was meant to promote strong blood and circulation. Swift’s Southern Pacific Company opened in 1826 and still operates today. This cauldron dates to the early 1900s. 2) A 12” tall, with lid, by 5” wide rectangular countertop display jar. The under-glass label is printed “Dr. Simmons/ Compound/ Aspirin/ Laxative Tablets/ For Pain/ C.F. Simmons Medicine Co./ J.H. Zeilin & Co./ St. Louis, Mo.”. The top is ornate pressed glass. No maker’s mark. c.1920. 3) A 4.75” by 9.5” “Sandholm’s Eczema Lotion and Dandruff Cure” pamphlet. C.1906. 4) A 9” by 13” tin advertising sign for “Dandro Solvent”. Gold ink trim and detail on a navy background. This sign is marked on the back, 'Made by The Elwood Myers Co. - Springfield, Ohio'. Notice that the sign has the paper backing that could be folded to be a self standing sign; however, this sign has never been bent to do that. Excellent all original condition you will not want to miss adding this barber related advertising sign to your own personal collection. c. 1920-1930. 5) 16 December 1906 Sunday Magazine full-page advertisement for “Dr. Miles’/ -Anti-/ Pain Pills”.
