Medals: Rare Olympic First Prize Medal
1932 Olympic "Gold" Medal, Uncirculated. 55 mm in diameter, presented at the Xth Olympiad in 1932 at Los Angeles, California. Gold-plated over ? According to the old slip of paper that accompanies this piece, this medal was awarded as First prize to David Wallin of Sweden for an unnamed event. The front of the medal features a laurel-crowned Olympian being carried on the shoulders of a crowd; the reverse shows Victory holding aloft a crown of laurel. Olympian winner's medals are rarely seen, as most are kept by the winners or their families. Usually, collectors must settle for participant's medals, which are not nearly as prestigious or as valuable as the piece we offer here. This is a rare opportunity to obtain not the bronze or the silver, but the gold! Housed in the original, plain case of issue.
