Medals. China 1900 (HMS Orlando), W.M, Victory, GV D.C.M, GV L.S.G.C and GVI (1st) M.S.M to Colour Sergeant George William Woodard RMLI, together with miniatures (except MSM) and three pocket watches. Mentioned in dispatches 3rd Oct.1918; "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in action when in charge of a Lewis gun. Most of the men round him had become casualties and five rushes were made against his position. It was owing to his gun that the line was not broken. Later although his gun was put out of action by an enemy bullet he repaired the damage under extremely heavy fire and silenced the enemy machine gun which was inflicting heavy casualties on our troops. On all occasions he has set a magnificent example of gallantry and devotion to duty". (see illustration) £1000-1500
