Medal grouping of Sgt. Kenneth Coon who began his long career as an infantryman with Company "D", 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division during World War II and remained in service through the Vietnam War. Offered here are the following: 4 slot brooch Bronze Stars, all bearing the V device and the appropriate number of oak clusters on the ribbons, and all with their original cases; one is engraved in attractive cursive script "Kenneth R. Coon". These are accompanied by two original WWII citations describing in detail Coon's actions under fire that earned him these medals, a third original citation from Vietnam, as well as four original certificates (dated 1951 and 1970); 3 Purple Hearts, one with slot brooch, two with crimp brooch (of these one officially engraved), all with two Oak Leaf Clusters on the medal's ribbon, and all with their original cases and accompanying bars with different number of oak clusters as well as an original 1951 certificate for the Second Oak-Leaf Cluster which Coon received in Belgium on the 3rd of January 1945 on the same occasion that he earned his Silver Star (the Silver Star is missing from the group); Army Good Conduct Medal, crimp brooch, named "Kenneth R. Coon."; Army Commendation Medal, slot brooch, engraved "SMAJ K.R. Coon / RA 34008878", two Oak Leaf clusters, in case of issue, with original certificate dated 1964; Legion of Merit Legionnaire, crimp brooch, unnamed, in case of issue; a variety of WWII and Vietnam era medals, badges, his fourragere, 30th Division unit patches, photographs and numerous documents; a huge custom made "Retirement Book" with engraved brass plaque to Coon, prepared by the US Army Third Recruiting District in College Park, GA, on the occasion of Coon's retirement. Coon's personal history and military bravery is impressive and can be traced in detail from the paperwork - some preliminary research accompanies the group. Medals generally VF, some with glue remnants on ribbon back due to former mounting, documents and certificates show some age, few stained.
