Medal - ROMANIA - The medal "The Merit in Public Education", set of first and second class
Instituted on October 2nd, 1898, by King Carol I, initially in two classes, to reward the primary school teachers, extended in the year 1900 to the secondary school teachers and after 1906 to the technical and trade schools. With a Royal decree from March 8th, 1907 the medal covered any sort of contributions to the advancement of national education and culture. The medal was closed in 1931, with the introduction of the "Order of The Cultural Merit". First class, breast badge, bronze gilt, on averse the portrait of King Carol I and the text "Carol I King of Romania". On reverse, the third and last definition of the medal, used for all forms of public education, surrounded by an oak leaves wreath. Suspension ring in the form of a wreath of laurel leaves. The maker's mark "Resch" on reverse. Second class, breast badge, silver, averse the portrait of King Carol I, different design, and the text on reverse in three rows. The suspension ring in the form of a wreath, but over the ribbon. Interesting set, with different maker's details, with original ribbons and in good condition.
